S7 F Series Safety Systems

S7 F Series is part of Siemens' range of fail-safe SIMATIC PLCs (programmable logic controllers), which focuses on the needs of the process industry and includes the SIMATIC S7-400F/FH

SIMATIC S7-400F/FH is used when larger safety-related plant and systems have to be automated. This is especially the case if an S7-400 is already being used for the standard automation of a plant or system.

Fail-safety is achieved using safety functions that are essentially implemented in the software. The S7-400F automation system executes safety functions to bring a plant or system into the safe condition or to maintain it in a safety condition when a hazardous event occurs.

The S7-400F/FH has been certified by the German Technical Inspectorate (TÜV) up to SIL3 in compliance with IEC 61508, AK6 acc. to DIN V 19250 and Cat. 4 in compliance with EN954-1.The German Technical Inspectorate (TÜV) and the German Statutory Industrial Accident Insurance Association (BIA) are notified bodies whose certificates are recognized in every country where IEC and EN Standards have been implemented in the domestic legislation.

The main applications of S7-400F/FH include:

  • Production linesZ
  • hemical industry, e.g. process furnaces
  • Petrochemical, e.g. drilling platforms
  • fineries
  • Cable liners

Fail-safe SIMATIC S7-400 automation systems systems are used in plants and systems with increased safety requirements. S7-400F/FH is used to control (open-loop) processes which can immediately achieve a safe condition, i.e. processes which, when immediately shut down, do not represent a hazardous situation for man and the environment.

The following safety requirements can be fulfilled with S7-400F/FH:

  • Requirement Classes AK1 to AK6 in compliance with DIN V 19250/DIN VVDE 0801
  • SIL1 to SIL3 Safety Integrity Level in compliance with IEC 61508
  • Categories 2 to 4 in compliance with EN 954-1

  Benefits S7 F Series

  • Less cabinet space is required

  • Lower engineering costs

  • Wiring modification costs are eliminated

  • Lower downtimes due to powerful diagnostics

  • Automatically generated documentation

  • Reproducibility for series systems,
